Dr Hercules Konstantopoulos
Head of Data Science
Driving innovation through technology integration.
Part of the Hugh Green Technology Centre, the data science team bridges the gap between raw data and discovery, helping collect, integrate and interpret complex sets of biological data, ensuring that researchers get the most impact from their experiments. The team provides expert support in bioinformatics and data analysis for scientists at the Malaghan Institute and across New Zealand.
The data science team develops and maintains advanced computational tools and models that make it easier for scientists to analyse and share data. By introducing collaborative systems like Jira, Confluence and Datalore, researchers can plan, manage and interpret their work more efficiently while maintaining high standards of data security.
Partnerships with organisations such as Dragonfly Data Science and Victoria University of Wellington are helping expand local expertise in statistics, coding and computational biology. By improving how data is managed and understood, the data science team accelerates scientific progress and supports the development of new treatments and technologies that will benefit people across Aotearoa New Zealand.
