Alfonso Schmidt
Head of Bioimaging
Bringing the microscopic world to light: enabling high-resolution imaging and analysis from molecules to whole organisms.
The bioimaging team within the Hugh Green Technology Centre helps scientists see and study samples in remarkable detail – from tiny molecules, to immune cells and entire organisms. Microscopy gives researchers the tools they need to explore how cells behave and interact with each other in both health and disease.
Built to support both Malaghan Institute scientists and the wider New Zealand research community, the facility integrates multiple imaging technologies to provide a complete picture of biological processes. This combined approach accelerates the discovery of new treatments and advances in medicine.
