Lessons from parasitic worms

31 January 2018

Malaghan Institute Research Fellow Dr Kara Filbey recently spoke with Kim Hill at Radio New Zealand about the important lessons parasitic worms such as hookworms can teach us about the immune system.

On the show Kara discusses her time in Ecuador studying rural communities and how worm infections correspond with lower incidences of asthma and allergies. Kara also talks about how she's studying how worms manipulate their hosts' immune systems to survive - and how we can harness this ability to treat inflammatory diseases like asthma and dermatitis.
