Harry Romanes honoured

07 May 2014, Supporting the Malaghan Institute

Recently the Malaghan Institute acknowledged the very generous support of Harry Romanes and his family in a small function at the Institute.

Harry Romanes, OBE, was a pioneer of New Zealand’s precast concrete industry and a highly respected local body politician, of which he was the last Mayor of Havelock North before the amalgamation into the Hastings District Council.

For several years Harry and Beverley have supported several projects and provided equipment that enhances the work of our scientists.

Beverley, Harry’s widow has continued to support the Malaghan Institute by ensuring that we have a backup steam generator. This is a very vital piece of equipment that provides surety for our steam generation. We’re very grateful for such generous support from the Romanes family; their kindness means that our medical research won’t be impacted by the risk of power failure.

“Harry” the generator was unveiled at this function and the family were delighted to see that it is firmly placed in concrete, something that Harry himself would have loved.
