Dr Forbes-Blom discusses the affect of antibiotic use on gut health

7 September 2016

Dr Liz Forbes-Blom, head of our Gut Immunology team at the Malaghan Institute, featured on Newshub last night sharing the cause for concern over the unintentional consequences of antibiotic use, especially on the early life immune system education of children. Dr Forbes-Blom discusses our current understanding of the potential effects of antibiotics on the human microbiome which may result in negatively affecting one’s overall health and well-being.

We now have a deeper understanding about how dysfunctions within the gut environment can be linked to the chronic inflammation, which contributes to the development of diseases such as cancer, asthma and allergies.

Further exploration of the gut microbiome and its influence on the development of these diseases continues to be investigated by Dr Forbes-Blom and her team.
